Set on six beautifully landscaped acres in Santa Fe’s downtown,La Posada de Santa Fe, a Tribute Portfolio Resort & Spa was originally constructed as a mansion known as The Staab House. Completed in 1882, the estate served as the home of Abraham and Julia Staab, members of high society in Santa Fe. When Abraham Staab died in 1913, the house then passed through various hands until R.H. and Eulalia Nason acquired the location nearly two decades later. The Nasons subsequently transformed the building into a hotel called “La Posada.” The hotel became a luxurious resort when new owners expanded the site during the 1990s. The recipient of a coveted AAA Four Diamond Award, this historic hotel in Santa Fe is today among the most sought after holiday destinations in the country.

Discover

  • Step through the doors of what was once the Staab mansion and has since become the cornerstone of a full-service resort offering traditional Southwest charm and intimate ambiance. The 3-story structure built by merchant Abraham Staab in 1882 in the French Second Empire style was home to Staab and his wife Julia, and the couple entertained much of Santa Fe society there, including, reportedly, President Rutherford B. Hayes.
  • Admire the hospitality embodied in the La Posada name -- Spanish for "inn" or "resting place" -- via the expansion of the destination in the 1930s and extensive restoration in the 1990s into a top-tier historic destination featuring a spa and four restaurants.
  • Discover beauty and Santa Fe craftsmanship of the 157 casita-style rooms and suites, some of them dating back more than 230 years. Harkening back to the resort's historic roots, each unique room includes details such as original adobe walls and exposed-beam (viga) or wood-slat (latilla) ceilings.

Explore

  • Explore the two city blocks leading from the hotel to the historic Santa Fe Plaza district, which has served as the business and social center of the town for more than 400 years and encompasses an array of monuments and historical attractions, including the Palace of the Governers (the most historic public building in the U.S.) and the New Mexico Museum of Art.
  • Visit two of the city's deeply rooted religious and cultural icons in the historic Cathedral Basilica of St. Frances, located in the historic plaza, and the nearby Loretto Chapel, home to a unique helix-shaped spiral set of stairs known as the "Miraculous Staircase."
  • Cross through the portal of the Palace of the Governors, dating back to 1610, to dive into the history of New Mexico. Once the anchor of Spanish government in the region, the site today serves as the state's history musuem, detailing the growth of both Santa Fe and the region as well. It was named a U.S. National Historic Landmark in 1960.

Experience

  • Reflect on the inspiration, unique artistry, and legacy of Georgia O'Keeffe, whose signature New Mexico landscapes were just part of a portfolio that explored the "wideness and wonder of the world" as she lived in it. The Georgia O'Keeffe Museum, based in a Pueblo Revival-style structure about a mile from the resort, houses some 3,000 works, which are on rotation throughout the year.
  • Encounter societies from all over the world through objects representing daily life at the Museum of International Folk Art. With some 100,000 pieces representing more than 100 nations, the collection centers on such everyday objects as paintings, toys, household ceramics, and native costumes.
  • Experience serenity on the Haiku Pathway on the campus of Santa Fe Community College. Thirty-six stones, engraved with traditional haiku and looser variations, were written by New Mexico poets and students at the school and attempt to capture the area's essence with humor and quiet reflection. The courtyard is always open to the public.

Taste

  • Dine at the Staab House bar, housed in the original 19th-century mansion around which La Posada de Santa Fe, a Tribute Portfolio Resort & Spa was built and expanded. Dubbed "the coziest bar in Santa Fe" by Travel + Leisure, the comfy and refined watering hole is an official stop on Santa Fe's Margarita Trail and offers the Juliarita, a signature cocktail named for original resident Julia Staab, whose planting of apricot trees in the 1800s provides an essential ingredient.
  • Indulge an appetite for Southwestern flavors built on locally sourced ingredients at Julia, a Spirted Restaurant & Bar. The moniker and menus pay tribute to this original resident with refined flavors and perfectly plated presentations, channeling Mrs. Staab's sense of occasion and style.
  • Bask in the sun during the day or stargaze at night with a meal or drinks at the Patio Restaurant, the resort's seasonal garden-dining destination. The menu spotlights northern New Mexico cuisine as well as classic American fare. The venue beckons with the warmth of open kiva fireplaces.
