The South

The southern United States has a spectacular collection of cultural attractions worth visiting. Travel down to visit such remarkable locations as the Gulf Islands National Seashore, the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and Mammoth Cave National Park. Visitors will encounter historic sites rooted in the nation’s Colonial past, such as the St. Augustine Historic District, Colonial Williamsburg, and the French Quarter of New Orleans. Numerous Civil War sites inhabit the region too, like the Vicksburg National Military Park, Andersonville National Historic Site, and the Fort Sumter National Monument. Many of the nation’s most illustrious beaches are also in the South, including Clearwater Beach in Florida, St. Simons Island in Georgia, and the Outer Banks in North Carolina.
